Hospital patient wristbands
The identification of patients in hospital wards is one of the basic elements for maintaining an adequate level of patients’ safety. Since January 2013, the Ministry for Health has imposed an obligation on hospitals to provide each patient with an identification item. Wristbands with a unique barcode assigned to each patient prevent mix-ups. In an instant, they can provide the doctor on duty with a complete set of information about the treatment being provided, performed operations and administered drugs.
The most commonly used wristbands in Polish hospitals are adhesive thermal bands of various sizes, offered by Zebra. This is an extremely cost-effective solution, and it complies with all safety standards. The wristbands are made of polypropylene, which is approved for use in healthcare facilities. This neutral material is non-allergenic, waterproof and comfortable for patients, which after all is not without significance, as the bandage is often worn for many days. This type of solution is also used for public and tourist events or as entrance tickets to amusement parks or aqua parks.
These wristbands have a direct print on their surface, which also means that the labels do not need to be printed separately. Compatible with Zebra’s HC100 printer, the wristbands are hassle-free. Simply load the wristband cartridge and start high-quality printing almost immediately. There are a variety of wristband styles to choose from, including a choice of colours.
The information most commonly printed on the surface of patient ID wristbands is:
- first and last name,
- PESEL number,
- ward where the patient is kept,
- hospital registration number,
- information that is important for patient safety, such as blood type, allergies, diseases that are directly life-threatening as well as those that cause a specific type of seizure, e.g. epilepsy,
- barcode or QR code which provides detailed information on a patient’s medical treatment.
